Heritage and Cultural Policy in France under the Fifth Republic

2003

International audience; In the French historical tradition, four approaches at least have been heavily exploited. One seminal study defines the concept longitudinally in terms of religion, the monarchy, the family, the nation, the administration and science. Another essay uses allegory in an attempt to penetrate the proclaimed, avowed or unspoken motives underlying the notion of heritage. Another work uses the criterion of restoration to determine when a historical monument falls into the category of heritage. Fourth, a recent ground-breaking treatise considers heritage in historical and archaeological practice as reflecting representations of citizenship and the nation. Our angle of attack…

Vers une historiographie des politiques des traductions en Belgique durant la période française

2014

The language policy of the French Revolution is known today especially for the imposition of the national language and the oppression of dialects and regional languages in France. We will illustrate this translation policy focusing on translations of political and administrative texts from French into Flemish in Belgium (which was annexed by the French Republic in 1795 and remained French until the end of the Napoleonic era). We will n…

L'action culturelle mise à nu par ses métiers (1788-1988)

2009

Cultural development has been the object of a number of studies, especially in its relations with cultural policy -or policies- or even through the theoretical study and implementation of cultural action, one of its preferred functions. Within these two fields of research, neither occupational sociologists nor scientists working in the area of information and communication have ever singled out cultural actors as a professional group for the object of a study. The current research intends to explore this issue of the professionality of cultural actors, particularly in so far as concerns their contribution to cultural development. After having stated that these practitioners belong to a grou…

«… Il tamburo di Lucano». Leopardi lettore della Pharsalia

2022

After having rapidly reconstructed the reading of Lucan between the 18th and 19th centuries, the contribution focuses its attention on the presence of Pharsalia in Leopardi’s production.
